    Overview

    Waterberg Resort — long known as Bernabé de la Bat — sits at the base of the Waterberg Plateau, a 200 m sandstone table rising abruptly out of the Kalahari bushveld about 280 km north of Windhoek. The plateau itself is a protected sanctuary: rare and relocated species including sable, roan, tsessebe, buffalo and both white and black rhino live on top, and the only way up is on a guided NWR game drive, which makes an afternoon here feel quite different to the usual self-drive circuit. Around the camp, well-marked walking trails run through fig, wild syringa and coral trees to viewpoints on the cliff line, and the birding is exceptional — this is the only place in Namibia where Cape vultures still breed. Accommodation is a mix of Double Rooms, twin and four-bed Bush Chalets, Family Chalets and the newer Premier Bush Chalets, all built from local red sandstone and set among the trees, plus a large campsite below the escarpment. There is a restaurant, bar, curio shop, fuel station and a swimming pool cut into the rock. Rates are per person and include breakfast; camping is room-only.
