    Overview

Terrace Bay is the furthest point on the Skeleton Coast that ordinary travellers can reach, roughly 300 km north of Torra Bay through the salt pans and gravel of the Skeleton Coast Park. It exists for the fishing: kabeljou, galjoen, steenbras and blacktail off a shore that almost no one else stands on, with the option of arranging a guide and bait through the resort. Accommodation is either a Double Room on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis — the restaurant is the only place to eat for hundreds of kilometres — or the larger self-catering Beach Chalets for groups of fishermen, which sleep eight or ten. Beyond the angling, the appeal is absolute isolation: shipwreck debris, brown hyaena and jackal tracks on the beach, roaring dunes inland and fog that rolls in most mornings. Access is by permit through Ugab or Springbokwasser gate and must be arranged in advance; the resort is a full day's drive from Swakopmund.
