Lodge in Sesriem, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Hardap
Sossus Dune Lodge is the only lodge built inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park at Sesriem, which is its single biggest advantage: guests pass through the inner gate at sunrise, an hour before visitors staying outside the park can even enter. The lodge is built in a Nama-inspired style of canvas, timber and thatch at the foot of the dunes, with 25 chalets spread along a low ridge and each one facing east across the desert. There is a pool, a bar and a restaurant with a deck for sundowners, and Sesriem Canyon is a short drive away. Rates are per person sharing on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Deadvlei, Big Daddy and Elim Dune are all reached from the same inner road.

Sossus Dune Lodge is the only lodge inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park at Sesriem, set on a low ridge at the foot of the dunes about 60 km from Sossusvlei on tar. Everything else in the area sits outside the gate on the C19. That distinction matters at dawn: guests inside the park pass the inner gate at sunrise, an hour before outside visitors are allowed through, and reach Deadvlei while the light is still low.
Twenty-five chalets are built in a Nama-inspired style of canvas, timber and thatch, spread far enough apart along the ridge that each has its own outlook east across the desert. Dune Chalets have two beds and an en-suite bathroom; Honeymoon Chalets have a double bed and a more private deck. All rates are per person sharing and include dinner and breakfast, with lunch, drinks and activities charged separately.
From the lodge it is 60 km on tar to the 2x4 parking area, then 5 km of soft sand to Sossusvlei — either in a high-clearance 4x4 or on the park shuttle. Deadvlei, with its 900-year-old camelthorn skeletons, is a short walk from the same point; Big Daddy and Dune 45 are on the way in. Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge cut by the Tsauchab River, is minutes from the gate and best in late afternoon. Balloon flights and scenic flights depart from nearby airstrips.
The lodge has a pool, bar, curio shop and a restaurant with a sundowner deck. Days are hot and nights can be cold, so pack layers even in summer. Park entry fees are paid at the gate on arrival. Peak season from 1 July to 31 October carries a significantly higher rate and books out far in advance — this is one of the first lodges in Namibia to fill.
