Sesriem Campsite sits just inside the outer gate at Sesriem, which gives campers the same head start on Sossusvlei that the lodges inside the park enjoy: you pass through the inner gate at sunrise, ahead of anyone staying on the C19 outside. Each site is set in its own walled enclosure around a camelthorn tree, with a tap, power point and braai area, and there are shared ablutions, a pool, a small shop and a fuel station at the gate. Sesriem Canyon is a few minutes away and Sossusvlei about 60 km further in on tar. Camping is charged per person and is room-only — most campers self-cater, though the restaurant at neighbouring Sossus Dune Lodge can be used by arrangement.

Sesriem Campsite sits just inside the outer gate of the Namib-Naukluft National Park at Sesriem, with the inner gate to Sossusvlei a short distance further on. That position is the whole point: campers here pass the inner gate at sunrise, ahead of anyone staying on the C19 outside the park, and reach Dune 45 and Deadvlei in the first good light of the day.
Each site sits in its own low walled enclosure around a camelthorn tree, with a tap, power point and braai area, and there is room for a vehicle and tents. Shared ablutions have hot water, and there is a swimming pool at the gate complex along with a small shop and a fuel station. Camping is charged per person, maximum eight people per site, and excludes meals — most campers self-cater.
It is about 60 km of tar from the gate to the 2x4 parking area, then 5 km of soft sand to Sossusvlei itself, either in a high-clearance 4x4 or on the park shuttle. Deadvlei is a 1.1 km walk from the same parking area. Dune 45 is 45 km in and the usual sunrise stop; Big Daddy and Elim Dune are close by. Sesriem Canyon, cut by the Tsauchab River, is a few minutes from camp and best in the late afternoon.
Bring shade and water — the site trees help, but Sesriem is hot and exposed, and afternoon wind is common. Nights can be genuinely cold from May to August. The restaurant at neighbouring Sossus Dune Lodge can sometimes be used by arrangement, but do not count on it. Park entry fees are paid at the gate, and camping rates are the same year-round.
