Naukluft Camp

Overview

Naukluft Camp is a handful of chalets and campsites in a rocky valley on the eastern edge of the Namib-Naukluft Park, where the Naukluft massif rises out of the plains and holds water year-round in a chain of clear pools. It is the trailhead for the Olive Trail and the longer Waterkloof Trail, two of the best day hikes in Namibia, and for the multi-day Naukluft Hiking Trail. Hartmann's mountain zebra, kudu, klipspringer and troops of baboon move through the kloofs, and the birding along the water is excellent. Facilities are deliberately simple — two-bed Bush Chalets with breakfast, and a small campsite limited to five people per stand — with no restaurant, so bring supplies from Solitaire or Maltahohe. Most travellers use it as a quieter alternative to the Sesriem corridor, either as a stop between Sossusvlei and Windhoek or as a two-night walking break in its own right.
