Khorixas Rest Camp

Overview

Khorixas Rest Camp sits on the edge of the town of Khorixas, the administrative centre of Damaraland and the natural staging post for the region's geology and rock art. Twyfelfontein's UNESCO-listed engravings, the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain and the Petrified Forest are all within an easy morning's drive, and the desert-adapted elephant of the Huab and Aba-Huab rivers are often found north-west of town. The camp itself is a spread of thatched bush chalets among mopane and acacia, including a unit built for wheelchair access, four-bed family chalets, a pool and a shaded campsite. Rates are among the lowest of any NWR property, which makes it a useful budget night on a Damaraland loop between Etosha and the Skeleton Coast. Fuel, shops and a bank are in town, five minutes away — worth using, because there is very little between here and Palmwag.
