Set on the southern tip of Chief's Island in the Xaxaba concession, bordering Moremi Game Reserve, the camp sits roughly 100 metres from the Delta Camp (Xaxaba) airstrip and is reached exclusively by light aircraft from Maun. The atmosphere is deliberately informal. There are no game-drive vehicles here — days are spent on foot with a guide and gliding through the shallow channels by mokoro, the traditional dugout canoe. Each booking is assigned its own professional guide for the duration of the stay, so itineraries stay flexible and unhurried. Twelve raised canvas tents sit on elevated wooden decks with en-suite bathrooms and open-air showers. There is no mains power in the tents — lanterns are provided, and charging facilities live in the main guest area. The raised central lounge and bar look out over the floodplains, and meals are served communally in the dining area. Oddballs' sits on the southern tip of Chief's Island in the Xaxaba concession, bordering Moremi Game Reserve, deep in the permanent water of the Okavango Delta. You arrive by light aircraft at the Delta Camp (Xaxaba) airstrip, about 100 metres away, and walk or pole the last stretch. There is no road access — which is exactly why the water and walking safaris here work so well.
This is a deliberately rustic camp. No mains power in the tents, no game-drive vehicles, no pool. What you get instead is a raised lounge and bar looking out over the floodplains, a communal dining area, lantern light, and your own professional guide for the whole stay. Days shape themselves around the water level and what you feel like doing.
Twelve canvas tents sit on elevated wooden decks — ten standard tents for two and two larger family tents for up to four. Each has an en-suite bathroom with a flush toilet and an open-air bucket shower, plus a private balcony facing the bush or floodplain. Lanterns replace bedside lamps; charging happens in the main area.
Wholesome, home-style meals served communally, with afternoon tea and snacks through the day. Dietary requirements are catered for with advance notice. All drinks are excluded and settled at camp.
Active, curious travellers who would rather walk and pole than sit in a vehicle, and who are happy trading plug sockets for silence. Families are welcome, though walking safaris and the Mokoro Trail carry a recommended minimum age of 12.
