These are our favourite South African camps — tented bush camps in the Greater Kruger, Meru tents in Phinda, and a few proper glamping sites where the bed is real but the wall is canvas.
Not in the lilo-and-tent-peg sense. Every camp on this list has proper beds, linen, hot showers and en-suite bathrooms. The canvas is the romance, not the discomfort.
Most camps welcome children over six; a handful are adults-only or have a 12+ age limit because of the open, unfenced design. Each lodge page lists the camp's age policy.
