Robins Camp sits in the rugged, little-visited north-western corner of Hwange National Park, about 110 kilometres from Victoria Falls. Its story begins with Herbert George Robins, the eccentric British astronomer and conservationist who farmed here and, fearing his land would be turned over to hunting, bequeathed it to the state in 1934 on the condition that it be protected. The square masonry observatory tower he built that same year still stands at the heart of the camp. Following a major refurbishment under private management, the camp offers 36 en-suite rooms split between thatched Acacia chalets and contemporary Mopani chalets, alongside a separate 25-stand campsite with its own ablutions and pool. Two game activities a day are included, along with per-person overnight park fees. The surrounding basalt plains and natural springs are the draw. This is buffalo country — herds here can run to well over two thousand animals — and the area is one of Zimbabwe's better bets for lion, leopard, spotted hyena and endangered African wild dog. June to October is the strongest game-viewing window, with August and September the peak.

Robins sits in the remote north-western basalt country of Hwange National Park, roughly 110 kilometres from Victoria Falls and 55 kilometres from the Pandamatenga border with Botswana. It is one of the least-visited corners of the park, and the natural springs and seeps here hold water through the dry season, which is what draws the game.
The camp grew out of Herbert Robins' farms and still centres on the observatory tower he built in 1934. A recent refurbishment brought the 36 rooms up to a comfortable standard without losing the traditional safari feel. Two game activities a day are included, along with overnight park fees, and there is a pool, a lapa and a dining room that opens onto the bush.
Eighteen thatched Acacia chalets, including two triples and eight arranged in a laager around a central lapa, sit alongside eighteen contemporary Mopani chalets. All are en-suite with high-pressure showers, twin or king beds, ceiling fans and private verandas. Twenty-five self-drive campsites with their own ablutions and pool sit separately.
All meals are included on the Full Board Plus rate, served in the dining room or out under the trees. Drinks, both alcoholic and soft, are charged separately.
