    Overview

    Jakkalsputz is a stretch of coastal camping in the Dorob National Park just south of Henties Bay, opened for the December and January fishing season when the Namibian west coast fills with anglers. There is nothing ornamental about it: level pitches on gravel above the beach, windbreaks, ablutions and water, with Henties Bay a few minutes up the salt road for fuel, tackle, bait and groceries. What it offers is direct access to some of the most productive shore fishing in the country — galjoen, kabeljou, steenbras and blacktail — and the cheapest overnight rate of any NWR property. It also works as a base for day trips to the Cape Cross seal colony, the Zeila shipwreck and the moon landscape and Welwitschia drive inland from Swakopmund. Fog and wind are part of the deal; a solid windbreak and warm layers matter more than anything else you pack.
