Lodge in Etosha National Park, Oshikoto
Halali is the middle camp of Etosha's three main rest camps, roughly halfway between Okaukuejo and Namutoni, and the only one built among hills and mature mopane woodland rather than out on the open pan edge. Its floodlit Moringa waterhole is reached on foot from the camp along a short path to a tiered stone amphitheatre, and it is one of the most reliable places in Namibia to see black rhino after dark, often alongside elephant and honey badger. Accommodation runs from campsites through double rooms and bush chalets to four-bed family chalets and a honeymoon suite. There are two swimming pools, a restaurant, a bar, a shop and a filling station. Rates are per person sharing on a bed and breakfast basis, and camping is charged per person, room only.

Halali is the middle of Etosha's three main rest camps, roughly 75 km east of Okaukuejo and 70 km west of Namutoni, which makes it the natural base for anyone touring the length of the park. Unlike the other two it is not on the open pan edge: the camp is built among dolomite outcrops and mature mopane woodland, so it feels shaded and enclosed. The Etosha Pan lookout at Halali's northern end is one of the better places to take in the scale of the pan itself.
Moringa is reached on foot from inside the camp — a short path leads to a tiered stone amphitheatre built into the rock above the water. It is floodlit through the night, and it has a reputation as one of the most dependable black rhino sightings in Namibia, frequently with elephant, giraffe and honey badger on the same evening. Because you walk there, you can sit as long as you like without worrying about gate times.
Accommodation spans the range. Double Rooms are the simplest option, with two beds, air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom. Bush Chalets come in two- and four-bed versions, one of them adapted for reduced mobility with step-free access. Family Chalets sleep four and add a kitchenette and braai area, and a Honeymoon Suite sits away from the busier part of camp. Campsites take up to eight people per stand with a power point, braai and shared ablutions.
Chalet and room rates are per person sharing with breakfast; camping is per person, room only. There are two swimming pools, a restaurant, a bar, a shop and a filling station, which makes Halali a useful mid-park refuelling stop even on a day when you are not sleeping here. Park entry fees are paid at the gate, and Etosha's internal gates open at sunrise and close at sunset — plan drives around those times.
