Forgotten Valley Ekoto Self-Catering Camp

Forgotten Valley Ekoto Self-Catering Camp is a remote camp situated deep within the wilderness of Kaokoland, in the Orupupa Conservancy of Namibia’s Kunene Region. It offers an exclusive off-the-grid stay, far from main tourist routes, for travellers seeking isolation, dramatic landscapes, and authentic adventure. The camp is a joint project between Orupupa Conservancy, Global Conserve, and private investors, aiming to open new income sources for the community. A stay at Ekoto Camp involves disconnecting from modern life and immersing oneself in nature, prioritising authenticity over traditional luxury. There is no Wi-Fi, no crowds, and no distractions, providing silence, space, and vast open landscapes. Days can be spent exploring the surrounding wilderness, with evenings offering clear, star-filled skies and complete tranquillity. Guests may encounter desert-adapted wildlife, including the Highland elephant, along with rich birdlife and opportunities for cultural interaction with Himba communities. The camp also features a swimming pool for guest use.

The camp features six fully equipped self-catering chalets, designed to offer privacy and comfort within a rugged natural setting. Each chalet provides comfortable sleeping and living areas. Accommodation includes a king-size bed and a seating area which contains a sleeper couch that can be converted into two single mattresses, suitable for children. Each chalet also has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet. Air conditioning is present in each chalet for guest comfort. Bedding and towels are provided. Seating is available both inside and outside the chalets, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Covered parking spaces are available within walking distance of each chalet.

Forgotten Valley Ekoto Self-Catering Camp operates on a self-catering basis. Each chalet includes a fully equipped kitchenette, featuring a refrigerator, a gas stove, a French press coffee maker, and an electric kettle. All necessary cutlery and crockery are provided for guest convenience. For outdoor cooking, each chalet has a veranda equipped with a gas grill. In addition to the private kitchenettes, guests have access to a fully equipped communal kitchen and a shared barbecue area. There is no on-site restaurant at the camp. However, a small shop is available, offering barbecue packages, local delicacies, snacks, coffee, wine, drinking water, and ice. Guests can pre-arrange basic supplies, breakfast options, and braai (BBQ) packs. An open fire pit is also available, ideal for enjoying the starry sky.
