The stay
Damara Mopane Lodge is situated 20 km east of Khorixas in the Kunene Region of Namibia. The lodge is constructed in a semi-circle of interlinking pathways, leading to a central swimming pool. This design is reminiscent of an African village. Each of the 60 chalets features its own small garden, which includes flowers, herbs, and vegetables. These gardens contribute to the lodge's ambiance and supply fresh ingredients to the kitchen. Zany scarecrows are placed within the gardens. The lodge grounds also feature well-kept green lawns and shady mopane trees.
The central area of the lodge is large and cheerful. There is a bar, a curio shop, and a cold water swimming pool. A viewing platform can be accessed by ascending a hill, offering sweeping views of the mopane woodland, particularly at sunset. This platform is a spot for sundowner drinks. The lodge has 24-hour security and offers secure parking at the main lodge. Wi-Fi is available, as is mobile connectivity. The property is accessible for persons with limited mobility. Services include laundry and credit card payments (Visa, Master). Check-in is from 14:00, with early check-in subject to availability. Check-out is at 10:00, with late check-out available upon request.
Activities available at or from the lodge include a sunset walk, which involves ascending the hill to the viewing platform. Beverages are provided for this activity and charged to the room. Self-guided hiking trails are also available, with two marked options taking between one and three hours. Guided birding walks are offered, introducing guests to various bird species, some resident, rare, or migratory. A full-day guided adventure, the Damaraland Elephant Explorer, offers tracking of desert-adapted elephants. This activity includes coffee, tea, snacks, a light lunch, beverages, and all entrance fees. Time permitting, participants may visit a Damara Cultural Village. This activity is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
