Chobe River Campsite

Chobe River Campsite, on the Namibian side of the Chobe River, offers a comfortable safari experience near Chobe National Park. The camp underwent a full rebuild of its rooms in 2024 and a complete overhaul of its main guest areas, including reception, restaurant, and bar, over three months. The original camp was known for its rustic charm and proximity to nature. The redesign preserves the 180-degree views of the Chobe River and introduces a hexagonal motif across its accommodation and main guest areas. This geometric design complements the adjacent floodplains, immersing guests in the environment.

The camp sits in a region abundant with wildlife. Guests can expect sightings of elephants, buffalo, and antelope, alongside a variety of birdlife. Across the river lies Chobe National Park, home to one of Africa’s largest elephant populations. The area is also known for its about 500 different bird species. Elephant live here all year round, and plains game such as waterbuck, zebra, sable, roan, and red lechwe are present, as are buffalo. Lion, hyena, crocodiles, hippo, and wild dog can also be found, particularly in the drier months. Seasonal activities include river safaris and guided game drives. The camp is set to join Gondwana’s Comfort Collection in 2026.

The camp offers twenty new rooms and a separate camping site. The rooms feature a sleek design and are elevated, tented eco chalets. These tented chalets are constructed from canvas, with fittings made from Mopani wood, which is indigenous to the area. Each chalet provides an airy interior and offers views of the Chobe River channels. They include their own deck equipped with deck chairs. Inside, there is an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower and a flushing toilet. The rooms are powered by solar for lighting and hot water.

For those preferring a different experience, the camping site is positioned on the water's edge. This site includes self-catering facilities, shared ablutions, and large trees that offer shade.

Chobe River Campsite provides several options for meals and refreshments. The main building, situated on the edge of the Chobe River, houses a restaurant. Guests can choose to dine in the interactive, open kitchen where they can observe the chefs. Alternatively, there is a dining room which serves traditional African cuisine. For a more informal setting, meals can be enjoyed under the stars next to an open fire pit. The camp also features a bar, which is part of the main guest area overhaul. A raised deck overlooks the Chobe River, offering a space to observe wildlife, and there are also private lounge decks available.

Chobe River Campsite is located in the Zambezi Region of Namibia, approximately 4km from the Ngoma Border Post, which connects Namibia and Botswana. The camp is situated on the Namibian side of the Chobe River, directly opposite Chobe National Park. This positioning places it near the world-famous Chobe Nature Reserve. The Eastern Caprivi, where the lodge is found, features permanent waterways dotted with dry land sections, rivers that swell with floodwaters during the rainy season, and both seasonal and permanent swamp areas.

The camp offers access to activities such as day trips to Victoria Falls, located 150km away. Guests can also visit the open-air museum of the Masubia tribe, which can be arranged through the lodge reception.
