Hakusembe River Lodge sits on the banks of the Kavango River, providing a tranquil setting 16km west of Rundu, at the gateway to the Caprivi Strip. The lodge is set within maintained gardens featuring acacia trees and colourful flowers, which extend down to the river. There is a communal thatched bar and restaurant, a wooden deck, and a swimming pool with sunloungers and changing rooms. The lodge also features a thatched reception area with a curio shop. During periods of heavy rain, from January to March, parts of the lodge may flood, and guests might be transferred by boat from a local village, with transport around the lodge also by boat.

The chalets are furnished with twin or double beds, and some include a third bed suitable for young children. They feature mosquito nets, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and an electronic safe. Each chalet has an en-suite shower and a separate toilet, plus a small veranda with a sitting area. Half of the chalets offer a river outlook, while the others are set further back in the garden. The two family rooms share a bathroom and have a separate toilet. These rooms vary in design; one is split over two levels with a small lounge and a children's mezzanine, while the other is larger with an upstairs children's room. Both family rooms include an outdoor braai area, a microwave, a mini fridge, and a kitchenette.

The lodge operates on a half-board basis. Breakfast is served, typically between 7.30am and 9.00am, and usually includes fruit, yoghurt, cold meats, toast, juice, tea, and coffee, with a cooked breakfast option available. Lunch can be requested between midday and 2.00pm. Dinner is typically a buffet-style meal, served between 7.00pm and 9.00pm, and sometimes takes place on the outdoor deck. The cuisine is generally good and hearty, with many vegetables sourced from the lodge's own garden. Vegetarian meals are available. Individual tables are provided for dining. Bottled water is supplied in the rooms, but other drinks are not included in the rates.
